Shapes of Grief2024

A learning management system (LMS) for an award-winning grief training course

Shapes of Grief teaches healthcare professionals how to support bereaved people. We installed, configured and managed the LMS that handles enrolment, payment, progress, certificates and reporting.

01 · The challenge

A growing course that needed a proper platform

Shapes of Grief is an award-winning grief training programme, built by grief specialist Liz Gleeson and delivered with over thirty contributors from the field. Its first website could not handle sign-ups, course progression and the general flow of the course as smoothly as the programme needed.

Liz also wanted the site to look like the programme it carries, rather than a template. The branding came from Kay at Patterns, and we designed and built around it.

02 · What we built

An LMS for enrolment, payment, progress and reporting

We moved the whole course onto a self-hosted LMS, and moved every existing participant with it, so nobody had to sign up again or lose their place.

The course runs in four levels of lectures, interviews and animations from over thirty contributors. Each lesson marks itself complete and the next one is always the obvious step. It all works on a phone, because most of the people taking it fit it around clinical work.

We also set up advanced reporting. Liz has a bird’s-eye view of the training on her site: how many learners and courses there are, what is being completed and how each course is performing across all its learners, with the option to drill into any course for the detail.

What runs without anyone administering it

  • 01Enrol and payRegistration and payment in one step, with coupons, pricing and bundles adjustable from the course admin area.
  • 02Track and certifyEach learner studies at their own pace, with certificates issued automatically upon completion of all the modules.
  • 03Reporting dashboardLearners, completions and how each course is performing.
